Arsenal's goalkeeper Backs Team's Strength as Vital to Silverware Ambitions
David Raya has stated that intense competition for starting positions is driving Arsenal's impressive performance, with the keeper confident that the team's roster under Mikel Arteta is so extraordinary that they can challenge for multiple honors throughout the campaign.
Dominant Wins Showcase Arsenal's Prowess
The North London club's latest 4-0 triumph over Atlético Madrid represented their six consecutive wins and tenth triumph in 12 matches. Having let in just three goals—the fewest at this stage in the club's history—they have secured a narrow advantage at the top of the table and a flawless start in the European competition after three outings.
Rotation and Versatility Crucial to Success
Raya has featured in almost all matches, except for one Carabao Cup encounter, but Arteta has frequently changed the lineup following heavy spending on new signings. When asked about competing for several pieces of silverware, he responded, "Yes, I think so. Our squad strength is amazing. There are numerous options who can excel in multiple roles."
For instance, against Atlético, a teammate was introduced as a striker and can also play as a central midfielder or No 10. Such flexibility is available to the manager, and it's being utilized to our advantage. It's looking very, very good, and this roster strength is very important for us.
Rivalry Drives Performance
Raya continued, "This situation provides an extra level in training and games because if you're not at it, your place is at risk in a fraction of a second. It creates healthy competitiveness in training and on the pitch, which is vitally significant, and everyone is on board."
Defensive Solidity a Collective Effort
The team have conceded only one goal from open play this season, and the keeper has had to deal with a mere one attempt in their last three wins against Atlético, Fulham, and West Ham.
"It's a collective effort from the striker to the goalie," Raya explained. "Everyone is focused, determined not to give anything away, and we aim to intercept the ball prior to it crossing the midfield. By winning it back, it allows a fast break. This is essential for the entire team to understand that way, and opponents aren't creating numerous opportunities, which is perfect."
