British Designer Antony Price, Celebrated for Creating Looks for Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.
The British designer Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer responsible for many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.
He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, most notably the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."
This news arrives shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.
