Ex- Aussie Cricket Star Damien Martyn Admitted to Hospital and in Medically Induced Coma After Bacterial Meningitis Diagnosis.
The ex-Aussie cricket star Damien Martyn has been admitted to hospital and put into a medically induced coma following a diagnosis of meningitis.
Serious Condition Revealed
Martyn, aged 54, “is facing the battle of his life”, according to ex-AFL star Brad Hardie, who revealed Martyn’s health situation on Tuesday.
“Let’s hope he can recover because it’s really serious,” Hardie said.
Martyn remains in a serious condition after becoming unwell on Boxing Day and being taken to a hospital in Queensland, according to sources close to the family.

Meningitis is inflammation of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord.
A Stellar Playing Career
Martyn is considered one of Australia’s most talented batters, featuring in 67 Tests and amassing 4,406 Test runs for an average of 46.37 between 1992 and 2006.
The right-hand batter’s unbeaten 88 in the 2003 World Cup final – with a broken finger – was instrumental in Australia's win over India.
He announced a shock retirement during the 2005-06 Ashes series in England following difficulties in the opening two Tests.
