Outrage Erupts as Trump's Post on Rob Reiner Ignites Fierce Rebuke

Figures from both sides of the political aisle and the entertainment industry are uniting to condemn former President Donald Trump for his remarks following the shocking deaths of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Social Media Post

After the couple were found deceased at their Brentwood residence, Trump posted on his platform to describe the deceased director as "anguished and struggling". In a message, he asserted Reiner's death was "due to the anger he caused others through his massive, relentless, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post then pivoted to self-praise, contrasting Reiner's alleged "raging obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Police Developments and Detention

Police have since confirmed the detention of the Reiners' adult son, Nick, on charges related to homicide in relation to the case. Reports indicate his bond was set at a substantial amount.

A Torrent of Condemnation from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's post was immediate and scathing.

“What a appalling and vile comment,” remarked public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Television host Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, also condemned the statements. Goldberg pointed to prior comments from Trump regarding political violence, asking, "Do you have no shame? Can you get any lower?"

California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly wrote, "He is a disturbed man."

Echoing this view, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "He is a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "He's just lost it. Now saying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own murder because they opposed him. So sick."

Criticism from His Own Party

A number of Republican elected officials also voiced dismay.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the event was "a family tragedy, not about political feuds or rivals". Greene also mentioned challenges with substance abuse and psychological well-being some families face.

Fellow GOP congressman, Thomas Massie, called Trump's discourse "inappropriate and disrespectful" given the circumstances. He publicly dared others in his political party to justify the statements.

Reiner's Legacy and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a outspoken critic of Donald Trump. In a previous conversation, he stated Trump was "mentally unfit" for the presidency. He had also cautioned about the risks of authoritarian rule should Trump return to power.

"We see autocracy making its move around the world," Reiner said. "Should the United States crumble, there’s a danger that democracy crumble around the world."

Regardless of his pointed opposition, Reiner had in the past expressed "complete revulsion" and denounced political violence without reservation after the killing of a different political figure.

An Ironic Link: The Art of the Deal

Adding a element of past connection, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the photographer who shot the photograph for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously shared the story of the session, mentioning Trump's request for "special hairspray" as being photographed on a skyscraper with a view of Central Park.
