The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for characters such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
Overall, the opening looks stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the music selection.
This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the official score of the same name, the second one released by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.
Personally, The series' intro fails to capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.
Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro seems to be one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on Spotify and YouTube.
